Sunil Rawat (B.Sc., MBA) – Manager
Sunil Rawat has been training entrepreneurs for over 18 years and has helped 1,000 plus people to successfully start and grow their businesses. Sunil has 40 plus years’ experience working in the pharmaceutical, retail management and entrepreneurial industry sectors. In addition he has owned and successfully managed several businesses in Manitoba and British Columbia.
Sunil was the pioneer in starting the BEST (Business Entrepreneurship Support & Training) Program at PICS. In addition to managing the BEST Program he also teaches some of the workshops and provides business consulting. Sunil has also taught entrepreneurship at SEEDS, Douglas College, Langara College and at Young Business Leaders with Department of Economic Development, Dubai, UAE. After obtaining an undergrad degree, Sunil completing diploma programs in ‘Human Justice’, ‘Cross-Cultural Awareness’ and Retail Management’. He earned his Master of Business Administration (MBA) in 2001 and has since been training entrepreneurs.
Ian Chan (MBA, P.Eng) – Business Advisor
Ian brings his diversified skill set of over 35 years to business and academic engagements through his management consulting business, Strategic Implementation Inc. (SI). SI focuses on enterprise-wide business projects and initiatives, coaching, facilitation and special projects.
Ian held positions as Industrial Engineer, Application Developer, Systems Engineer, Marketing Manager, Systems and Services Manager, Western Region Manager, Sales Executive, Consulting Manager, Executive Management Trainer, Product Manager and Business Consultant in Government, Education, Medical, General Insurance, Finance, Manufacturing, Distribution, Telecom, Hospitality and Retail Industries.
As a senior manager, Ian has held positions such as District Manager for Data General, Regional Services Manager for Cognos, and Western Region Consulting Manager for Information Builders.
As an educator and trainer, Ian held positions as Business Advisor and Facilitator at the Self Employment and Entrepreneur Development Society (SEEDS), and as Faculty at British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), Meritus University, Kwantlen Polytechnic University and the University of Phoenix.
He holds a Masters in Business Administration, Management Sciences from the Schulich School of Business (York University) in Toronto, Ontario, a B.A.Sc. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Toronto, is a licensed Real Estate Broker in British Columbia and Ontario, and is trained as a Project Management Professional.
Gary Schnell – Business Advisor
Gary has enjoyed an accomplished career as a Sales & Marketing leader gaining demonstrated expertise in business development strategies and implementation of winning marketing programs.
Soon after graduating from Business Administration from the Red River College of Applied Arts, Science & Technology in 1985 he began his career in Denmark working as a Copywriter/Creative Director for Mercur Marketing. After returning to Canada, he started with Communicorp Advertising & Public Relations. After a few years in the advertising world he was bitten by the sales bug and never looked back.
He began his sales career within the medical industry working for large manufacturing and distribution companies; Becton Dickenson & Ingram & Bell representing surgical instrumentation and capitol equipment. In 1996 he continued his sales career in the hospitality industry with Simmons Canada and eventually accepted a management role within heading up sales & marketing for western Canada. In 2007 he returned to the medical industry as Vice President of sales & marketing for Unicell.
In 2009 after the economic downturn, he started his entrepreneurial journey in starting a recruitment agency, Find a Sales Pro Inc. specializing in placing sales and management professionals. He also has ownership in IronFind a heavy truck brokerage firm.
In addition to running his businesses, he actively teaches and consults with the PIC’S BEST (Business Entrepreneurship Support & Training) Program supporting entrepreneur development. Gary teaches Sales Strategies, Finance and Operations Management.
Katarina Low (B.Sc.) – Program Administrator
Katarina has a B.Sc of International Business Administration with French as a major language, graduating from the University of Economics and Law in Gothenburg, Sweden. She has a demonstrated history of working in the program development industry. Katarina is a strong community and social services professional skilled in customer service, staff development, teaching and higher education.
Upon immigrating to Canada, Katarina worked with a sports travel start-up business in Toronto as Office Manager. She continued her career teaching the LINC program to adult ESL newcomers to Canada at Abbotsford Community Services, and then progressed to supervising a team of 23 teachers there. She currently works as a freelance Swedish translator. In addition, she teaches the Swedish language to adults and online classes for high school students.
In the BEST program, Katarina takes care of enrollment and various administrative tasks. She teaches Computer Skills as well as Time and Stress Management.
She has a great interest in multiculturalism and enjoys hiking, the outdoors and travelling.
Melissa Singh – Program Assistant
Melissa Singh is an experienced professional specializing in management consulting and entrepreneurial support services. She has successfully assisted clients to achieve objectives in business development and human resources such as capacity building, organizational reviews, performance management, and business process improvements. Melissa is committed to team work and collaborative stakeholder engagement and has worked closely with a variety of clients in the public and private sectors including non-profit organizations, Aboriginal communities, provincial and federal governments, small businesses and large corporations.
Melissa has over 8 years experience providing program administration and coordination of government-funded employment support services in both Alberta and British Columbia. She has worked on programs such as Employment Readiness Training, Occupational Training, and the Self Employment Program. She has assisted hundreds of clients to successfully complete employment training and to either secure employment or to plan and launch a small business. This has included developing program curriculum, facilitating a number of courses, and overseeing the administration of programming.
Melissa has her Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from Simon Fraser University and is involved in ongoing professional development in Project Management, Management Consulting, and Leadership. She is skilled at business writing and editing and at developing customized deliverables such as training curriculum, strategic plans, business plans, performance management tools, guidebooks, and policy manuals.
Melissa supports the BEST Program by tracking clients’ progress, managing client files, organizing training schedules and facilitators, developing marketing materials and other documentation, and overseeing the business resource centre.
Balwinder Singh Chahal (B.A., LL.B) – Business Consultant
Balwinder served as Business Consultant with the Self-Employment Entrepreneurial Development Society (SEEDS) from 2001 to 2015; assisting clients to discover their entrepreneurial potential, research their business proposal and develop a business plan. He has guided and motivated more than 700 business people. Balwinder graduated in Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) and Bachelor of Economics in Punjab University, Chandgarh. His experience began in the corporate world in India, from a management executive to a general manager within the brewery and textile industries supervising a large employment pool of over 3000. He relocated to Canada in 1994 and obtained a Diploma in insurance and financial business, where he set up his own successful practice in the lower mainland still in operation today. He focuses on individual, manufacturing businesses and corporate estate planning strategies. He began with PICS in 2017 where he will continue to share his experiences and guide future entrepreneurs.
Nitin Kumar – Business Consultant
Nitin joins us from VanLonChan Consulting Inc., his own business consulting firm, where he has been offering Business Consulting and Capital Raising Strategies to Canadian and UK based small businesses as well as big corporations like TELUS. VanLonChan also offers Marketing Consulting through its brand SoShall Marketing, serving organizations with branding and marketing solutions.
Nitin started his professional career as a Design Engineer for auto industry, designed products for Mercedes-Benz, ACDelco and Carrefour; and thereafter, got involved as a Project Co-coordinator for the promotion of European Union’s Social Projects in the UK and arranged music festivals, recruitment fairs, corporate events and other awareness events in the South West of the UK. While working on EU Projects in London (UK), Nitin also assisted a local management consulting in business development and assisted its Startup and SME clients by preparing business plans and raising finance from London Development Agency (LDA).
Nitin holds bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engg, Post-Graduate certification in business admin and has completed business related certification courses from University of Maryland, Stanford Business School and IESE Spain. He was also one of the entrepreneurs who were selected by BCIT for learning Technology Growth Strategies course in association with Discovery Foundation.
Apart from business and marketing consulting, Nitin is assisting Canadian Cancer Society in spreading cancer awareness in Fraser Valley & Interior BC and he enjoys teaching business courses to students at local education institutes.
Outside of work, Nitin enjoys cooking, sketching, reading and serving local community. He is recipient of prestigious “Nehru Humanitarian Award” from The University of British Columbia (UBC) & The Goel Family Charitable Foundation for his outstanding community service.
